What is the success behind the SLX series, and.. what is a mask writer? Charlott Samuelsson, Senior Vice President Pattern Generators, gives us some insights around the SLX in the following interview.

You can also read a transcript of the video here:

Elisa:
So, Charlott we just received
an order of another two SLX mask writers.

Could you explain it in short,
what is a mask writer?

Charlott:
A mask writer is a very strategic product
for the production of semiconductors
and displays.

It is actually the link
between the design as drawing
of the component and the actual
component on the wafer.

So it's a truly strategic product
that is an essential part of
the supply chain.

Elisa:
I know that in October 2019,
when you launched the SLX series,
the estimated goal was to sell 4 to 6
machines per year.

Charlott:
Yeah.

Elisa:
And now,five years later,
we have reach beyond 60 machines.

What is the success behind the SLX?

Charlott:
I think it's multiple reasons, of course. It's a combination.
It's a combination of extremely good and talented people
that have been in this industry for a very long time.

And it's an accumulated knowledge
that goes back to the seventies.

It's also about our technology.
So it's people and technology.

It's also about the market.
We happened to enter this just before the pandemic,
which might be viewed as a bad timing,
but in the fact it was a very good timing
when the need for components really boomed.

But maybe most important has been the support
from our customers, their trust in us and their support.

We have had numerous meeting
with customers to find out what they really needed
and they gave us the opportunity to enter the market.

Elisa:
And also early in September
we received an order for the
delivery of the first European mask writer.

Any comments on that?

Charlott:
Of course, living in a European country it’s of course
very nice to be able to also ship a machine to Europe
and it's also good to see that Europe is investing
in the semiconductor industry and it's good to be
part of that investment.

Elisa:
Thank you.

Charlott:
You're welcome.
