As a result, industries have adapted and improved their digital services, and the importance of the internet has become even more critical and in 2020 we saw a 51% increase in global network traffic.

The rise of Metaverse – virtual 3D spaces making displays indispensable

Part of this development is the rise and creation of a “Metaverse”, that some say is the next version of the internet. Just recently Mark Zuckerberg (founder of Facebook) announced that the social network is becoming ‘a metaverse company’, and also changed the name of the company to ‘Meta’. The intention is to build a more maximalist, interconnected set of experiences spanning social presence, office work and entertainment.

The word Metaverse is made up of the prefix “meta” (meaning beyond) and the stem “verse” (a back-formation from “universe”) describing the concept of a future iteration, made up of persistent, shared, 3D virtual spaces linked into a perceived virtual universe, and has become one of the hot buzzwords in the tech world.

Now, how does this connect to Mycronic?

In order to make a metaverse possible, there is one key component that is indispensable, Black Mirrors, in other words displays. People experience all these virtual spaces by interacting through displays. And all advanced displays are created with photomasks produced by our mask writers.

As a supplier of photomask pattern generators for displays, we are proud to contribute to keeping the pace of everyday life.

The display market has soared during the Covid-19 age, and reached 124 billion USD in year 2020 (13.7% year-on-year) and is expected to reach 161 billion USD in 2021 (29.7%).

Displays are produced with lithography, a well-proven technology developed and fine-tuned over decades that requires photomasks. Each year Mycronic’s pattern generators produce photomasks which generate;

  • Production of 3,600,000,000 displays
  • Covering an area of 34,000 football fields
  • To a value of 124,000,000,000 USD

As a supplier of photomask pattern generators for displays, we are proud to contribute to keeping the pace of everyday life during Covid-19 age, and we will continue to support the industry and keep people connected through tomorrow’s electronics.
