PRESS RELEASE

At the upcoming Productronica, Vi TECHNOLOGY will exhibit the new platform which will prefigure next models of its renowned 3D AOI K series. The new design, only unveiled at the show, embeds a machine learning based technology that drastically reduces the programming time while maintaining the high level of performance and flexibility for which it is renowned.

The French optical inspection equipment manufacturer will unveil its new 3D AOI platform. Visitors to the Mycronic booth will have the privilege of discovering the new design of the proven K3D AOI, which will prefigure future models of the range. This evolution of K3D AOI naturally integrates with other equipment from the Mycronic product range, clearly affirming its belonging to the MYPro Line concept designed to enable the smart factory.

2x faster programming
Vi TECHNOLOGY’s K 3D series is now recognized worldwide for its reliability, precision and repeatability. The 3D AOI range has been adopted by leading companies from the most demanding industries such as medical, aerospace, automotive and defense, regardless of production volumes. Based on a customer-centric approach, Vi TECHNOLOGY thrives to optimize the return on investment of its inspection equipment by reducing its total cost of operation and by increasing the value created for its customers. This has led the R&D department to accelerate the programming time by a factor of 2, by taking the software to a new technological level.

Machine Learning inside
This new K3D will mark the advent of a brand-new generation of AOI operating software. New algorithms based on Machine Learning technology, a subset of Artificial Intelligence, aim at automating programming tasks thanks to autonomous component recognition and assisted model creation. This will represent a major step forward for Low volume - high mix EMSs with a high pace of new product introduction. In practice, it will only take a few clicks to program the inspection of a completely new board containing hundreds or thousands of components. These new software features will be available to all K 3D customers by the end of 2019.

Unrivalled reliability and flexibility
Under the hood of this modernized version you will find all the hardware and software evolutions recently introduced by Vi TECHNOLOGY. By combining its latest high-speed laser 3D scanning head with the new smart scene analysis algorithm, this K3D features an inspection time up to 50% faster than on previous generation. Among the latest notable improvements, we can mention the extension of the test coverage with detection of foreign materials, a powerful Optical Character Verification feature and the addition of a new component overhang test according to IPC requirements. These new features complement a toolbox already popular with users for its efficiency and flexibility, such as the inspection of odd-shaped exotic components, like custom connectors, or the advanced metrological tool for distance measurement with a 10 µm precision.

The new K3D AOI platform will be exhibited on Mycronic booth (Hall A3 #341).
